Shift handover is where a lot of context gets lost, since the incoming crew gets a verbal summary and a partly filled sheet, and anything unusual from the last twelve hours depends on someone remembering to mention it. When a long procedure spans shifts, that gap is where steps get repeated or skipped.
If the procedure is digital, the handover can be the procedure itself, with every completed step, reading, comment and open issue sitting exactly where it happened. The incoming operator picks up at the next step with the full history in front of them, which is a far more reliable handover than a conversation at the end of a long shift.
