If a gas reading is above the limit set in the permit standard, the permit should not be issued, and the system should make that impossible to skip rather than relying on someone to notice the number. Readings close to the limit should also be visible to the approver so they can decide whether extra controls or more frequent testing are needed.
It also matters that gas testing is not treated as a single check at the start of the job. Conditions change during the work, so the permit should record retests at the required intervals and flag when a retest is overdue or a reading goes out of range while the permit is still active.
