These steps are usually handled by different people and tracked in different places, so equipment can sit waiting for inspection without anyone knowing, or go into storage without the preservation it needs, and most of that happens in the handoffs between steps.
Connecting them means each step triggers the next one, so receiving an item creates the inspection task, a passed inspection creates the preservation and storage tasks and the item’s status is visible the whole way through. That gives everyone one view of where each piece of equipment is and what still needs to happen to it.
